Auto and Motorcycle Accidents
What are the first steps I should take after an accident?
Never drive away from the scene of an accident even if it’s a minor one. Protect the scene, which means you can prevent further accidents by keeping your flashers on. If it’s dark and your lights don’t work, you should have a flashlight to keep you safe while you wait in your disabled car or by the side of the road.
Call the police. Even if there are no serious injuries, it is a good idea to still call the police and make a report for the insurance company.
Make an accurate record, so when the police arrive, you tell the investigator or an officer exactly what happened to the best of your ability. If you do not know certain facts, tell the officer. Do not speculate, guess, or misstate any of the facts. If you are asked if you are injured and you are not sure, say you are not sure rather than “no.” Often, the pain and injuries from motor vehicle accidents become apparent hours or even days after the collision. You should also make sure the statements made by other persons involving the accident are accurate as well.
Take pictures. If you have a camera on your phone, use it. Take pictures of all vehicles as well as damage that appears to have been caused by the accident as well as pictures of damage not caused by the accident, if any exists.
Exchange information such as driver’s license and insurance coverage, and then report the accident. Notify your insurance company as soon as possible, because many policies require immediate reporting and full cooperation. When you speak to your insurance company, confirm you have medical benefits as it’s part of your insurance coverage.
Seek medical attention. Most of our clients report feeling more pain the day after the accident so it’s important for you to seek medical attention.

How can I tell whose fault the accident was?
Who is at fault in an accident can be quite complicated. Who is at fault is a question of law and everyone has a different view as to what actually causes an accident. Oftentimes, it is a question of who is more at fault as both drivers have some responsibility for causing the accident. At Turchin Law, you can rest assured that we will fully investigate and obtain the experts necessary to establish that you are not at fault or otherwise that that fault is limited, which is necessary to ensure your maximum recovery.
There can also be various causes to accidents that do not involve another driver. Sometimes, cars malfunction and the manufacturer of the car is ultimately held responsible for causing the accident. Other times there are road defects and the government is ultimately responsible for improper building of a roadway. All of these issues have been handled by Turchin Law in various cases and we will fully investigate those issues and make the appropriate determination as to who is responsible for the injuries and car damage you have suffered.
Is it okay if I talk with insurance companies after an accident?
Insurance companies have a fiduciary responsibility to their stockholders to pay out as little benefits as possible. At Turchin Law, we are experienced and are responsible for obtaining as much money for our clients as the law allows. Therefore, we recommend that you report the accident to your insurance company, but before making any recorded statements about how the accident occurred, your views on fault, etc, that you contact Turchin Law first and we will coordinate directly with your insurance company.
How do I know if I need a lawyer after an auto accident?

Hiring Turchin Law is the best option for you especially if you have suffered injuries, are faced with expensive medical bills, or have experienced a significant loss of wages or loss of your car due to the accident.

Bring the police report if one was prepared and you have it. That information will allow us easy access to the Police Report. Second, you bring a copy of your insurance card, your car registration and your driver’s license. If you sought medical attention such as going to your personal physician or an emergency room, bring whatever paperwork you received and copies of whatever medication prescriptions written by your doctors.
How does Turchin Law standout from other personal injury firms in California?
We’re more responsive than other firms. We care for you and we’re compassionate. We have experience and we know what we’re doing.
There are plenty of attorneys out there in the industry with a lot of years of experience, but that doesn’t necessarily translate to client communications. The biggest complaint that we receive from people who have gone to other attorneys is that their questions are not answered, their attempts to communicate with their attorneys don’t result in them actually speaking with anybody, that they have to leave a dozen messages before they receive a return telephone call. That will never happen at Turchin Law. You will receive a response, if not within the hour, certainly within the day. And we will answer whatever questions you have and give all the guidance necessary to help you through the process. Do not underestimate the power of knowledge and communication. It will make all the difference in your experience with the legal system as we fight for you to recover compensation for your injuries, car repairs and lost earnings.
If it was a road condition that caused my accident, can I get help with my medical bills?
Cases involving road conditions involve lawsuits against the government that created the road condition problem. These require specialty assessment from experts such as civil engineers and other people in position to provide expert witness testimony to establish that the government was negligent in the way it constructed the particular roadway where your accident occurred. We have the contacts to find these experts and to enlist them to assist you in establishing your case.
What if the accident was my fault? How do I get my medical bills taken care of?
Well, you would need to look at your policy coverage, and if you have medical pay, then your own medical bills will be covered through the policy even if it was your fault.
